Clacton Pier joined hundreds across the town in honouring the service and sacrifice made by those who laid down their lives for their country.

It paid its own tribute on Remembrance Sunday to those men and women who have died in numerous conflicts around the world.

The attraction’s front screen displayed a giant red poppy field instead of its normal advertising.

The pier also put on free coffee, tea and biscuits for all serving or former service men and women throughout yesterday.

Just yards away, at the war memorial on the Upper Promenade, a large crowd of all ages and organisations gathered for the annual service.

Communications manager Nigel Brown said the pier is proud to play its small part in honouring all those who have defended our freedom over many decades.

“There is always a fantastic turnout at the memorial in Clacton and it seems to grow every year,” he added.

“It is very important to commemorate the sacrifices made by so many and it must never be forgotten.”
